E16th Street stone drive, courtyard and walkways

This stone drive and courtyard were designed to connect two worlds. They connect us to a timeless tradition of using stone in great old world open spaces, while also reflecting a new, essential and ecological approach to making that conserves resources and integrates the living world. Openings between the granite Belgian blocks allow for the absorption of stormwater, while providing a place for the growth of small clovers, grasses and chamomiles. The stone driveway connects to a new stone walkway leading to new and reconstructed gardens to the rear and front of the house. The courtyard's new white cedar fence and gate is designed to satisfy needs for both privacy and permeability.
